Indonesia….

                      Southeastern Indonesia Pictures                                               Bali Pictures

Komodo dragons patrolling the beach for food, monkeys within a grasp as they grab a kernel of corn from your hand, Ramadan fasting observed by the Muslim populations, and while in Bali, fragrant daily offerings to the Gods by Hindu worshipers are just a sampling of our Indonesian experience.  I offer two pages of pictures, one for the southeastern islands where we surfed and visited small villages and Bali, the play land of Indonesia.

Vanuatu :

An island nation that boasts over 105 local languages, the villagers use Bislama, a pidgin English to communicate with each other and in publications.  Along with Bislama, children are educated in either English or French depending on the school they attend, a throw back to the English/French Condominium government.

The Kanu (canoe) to the right was carved out of a breadfruit tree.  Usually it only takes a day or two to carve out the little boat and it is the main transportation for the islanders.  There are very few outboards around these islands, in fact little electricity and modern conveniences.

Fiji :

Whether walking through the busy city of Suva or strolling along a quiet path in a village, this culture takes the time to say,”Bula” (hello) with a smile.  This simple greeting meets us everywhere we venture in Fiji along with the 85 degree temps.

Hard to believe that in mid-December 2006, this country experienced a coup.  The people we had spoken about the change in government had a variety of views.  Some saying the new dictator president will go to jail while others think he can wipe out the corruption…but regardless of the new leader’s plans, the common Fijian suffers the most with the lack of tourists and thus the lack of tourism dollars that would normally trickle down to the Fijian selling handmade wares.

New Zealand, North Island :

There are many activities on the North Island , that we had “no worries” showing our visitors a good time with tramping the trails, swimming in thermal creeks, sailing to small islands and harvesting oysters and mussels were just some of the neat things to do.

Bay of Islands, New Zealand:

Tied next to Q dock, Moorea lightens the load with jerry cans on the dock.  A great place to clean out compartments and reorganize the boat, we are finding Marina life a nice luxury with hot showers and laundry facilities.
